LAWYER ASSAULTS FEMALE JOURNALIST IN HER OWN HOUSE IN AKWA IBOM

A 35 year old legal practitioner Akaniyene Cletus has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Uyo for allegedly assaulting a female journalist Blessing Ambrose.

The case, which is between the Commissioner of Police v Cletus came up for hearing before Chief Magistrate Usukuma Akpabio.

Blessing who is a broadcaster with Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation AKBC, told the court that the accused had beaten her up and inflicted injuries on her on May 29, 2016.

She said Cletus, who was her co-tenant at No. 6 Umana Uko Lane, off Atiku Abubakar Road in Uyo demanded for a drink when she brought a sewing machine to the compound.

She claimed that the accused beat her up when she refused to provide the drink.

My Lord “I reported the matter to my landlord who intervened and said that he does not want any trouble in the compound.

“Few days later Cletus’ house help came to tell me that my friend that visited does not know how to use the sewing machine.

“Cletus who was inside his house shouted that I should take the machine out of the veranda immediately.

“He later came out and used his legs and pushed the sewing machine.

“When I demanded to know why he should hit my sewing machine, he slapped me, pushing me down and beat me up.

“I sustained injuries on my knee, eyes, arms and face. When my brother tried to stop him, he beat him up too. People from the compound later came and took me away,” Ambrose said.

She said she informed the landlord of what transpired, and that he cautioned Cletus to learn to live peacefully with other tenants or move out.

The complainant further said that on August. 7, 2016, Cletus intimidated her with a machete, a situation which made her to immediately report the matter to the ‘C’ Division of the Police at Aka Etinan, in Uyo.

The Chief Magistrate however adjourned the case to January, 9, 2017 for further hearing.

PARENTS CHAIN 14-YEAR-OLD RUNAWAY DAUGHTER FOR A MONTH

A teenage girl, identified as Onyeka John, has regained freedom after she was allegedly chained by her mother to the burglar-proof bars for about one month.

The girl lived with her parents in a rented apartment on Serebe Street, Abaranje, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
The parents reportedly tied up John by the neck and legs for habitually running away from home, which they ascribed to mental illness.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the parents had gone out on Wednesday and locked up the girl as usual.
On that day, the landlord, Mr. Oladapo Olubajo, was said to have gone to the backyard, where the family’s apartment is located, to check a pumping machine when he saw the girl.
The landlord was said to have alerted a resident, who reported the case to the police at the Ikotun division.
The resident, who begged not to be named, said the girl’s parents eventually showed up at the police station and made statements.
He said, “The parents locked the girl up. She is about 14 years old. She was chained naked to the burglary inside the room by the neck and legs.  Policemen came to rescue the girl. Her parents later turned themselves in at the station. They said the girl had been a disgrace to the family.”
The landlord, Olubajo, told our correspondent that he wanted to take up the matter with the parents, but some residents prevailed on him not to.
He explained that he met the girl naked in the apartment, adding that the condition she was could frustrate her to commit suicide.
Olubajo said, “When I saw her chained to the burglar-proof  bar, I raised the alarm. The police later got the parents to the station and interrogated them.
“The girl said she had been there for almost one month. Her parents moved here a year ago. I have noticed that their behaviour was odd. but I didn’t know they could go to the extent of chaining the ir daughter.
“People begged me and the police eventually released the girl to them yesterday (Wednesday). The conclusion we reached is that I want them out of my house. They also claimed the girl is mentally ill. Even if she is mentally challenged, was that the right way to go about it? She could have killed herself.”
Onyeka’s father, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on the telephone on Thursday, said he and his wife meant no harm for the girl.
He said, “She always runs away from home. That was why we chained her. I think she is mentally ill. We planned to take her to a hospital this month. As I speak now, she has fled home again.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the case was under investigation.
“The lady is suffering from mental illness. Her parents chained her to prevent her from entering the street, and without intention to harm her,” she added.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LITERALLY COME FROM NOTHING - MARIAH CAREY SPEAKS ABOUT HER LIFE BEFORE FAME

 Mariah Carey, Mariah's World

Mariah Carey is one of the most successful singers of all time, but it wasn't always that way.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Sunday's premiere of Mariah's World, the "Obsessed" songstress opens up about her humble beginnings while sailing the Italian seas on a yacht with her nephew Shawn.

"I think me and Shawn have a great relationship because we both understand what it's like to literally come from nothing," Carey says. "We did not grow up this way, people have to understand this."

"This is not normal back in the day," Shawn laughs.

"I've always had this love affair with music, ever since I can remember. When I was like four years old, my mother encouraged me to sing," Mimi explains. "I started doing demos when I was like 12 years old, I was a backup singer. I moved to Manhattan alone as a teenage girl. It was an exciting time for me, even though I had nothing."

The E! star continues, "I lived like on a mattress on the floor. I was writing my songs and being a horrible waitress. My demo tape ended up at Sony and they signed it away."
And the rest is history!
