Funke Akindele is not happy that certain persons have been using her name to ‘extort unsuspecting individuals and fans’.
A rep for the recently-separated actress
has issued a statement describing the impersonators as ‘criminals’,
explaining that they used Akindele’s name to open a Facebook account to
demanded payment from members of the public to participate in movie
productions and promotional campaign through her ‘Scene One Production’
company.
The impersonators are said to have gone
as far as offering a range of prizes including Laptops, TV sets and
other consumer products.
‘We wish to state that the star
actress, who has a genuine account, will not demand money from anyone to
take part in her movie productions or to run her school. Bonafide
students of the school pay ONLY to the school’s account (Scene One
Production) and not her personal account. Meanwhile, members of the
public should note that in due course, registration to the school of
drama will commence’, the statament from Tofarati Ige of Entertainment Media Limited reads in part.
Celeb impersonation on social media
platforms is on the increase, with recent victims including Wizkid,
Banky W, Segun Arinze and now Funke Akindele.
