The Nigerian Navy says it has achieved a considerable success in the protection of Nigerian maritime boundary.
Addressing a gathering in Abuja on Monday, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, said that all the targets set by the Navy for 2013 had been achieved.
The event was organised to present a new strategic document for the Nigerian Navy, but the naval chief used the opportunity to present a score card of the achievements of the Nigerian Navy for the year.
Some of these achievements, according to the naval chief, include the reduction in piracy and other criminal activities within Nigerian maritime space, rescue of hijacked vessels, better patrol of both inland waters and the high seas, the arrest of more than a thousand suspects and the procurement of more seaworthy vessels by the Nigerian Navy.
In order to consolidate on the achievements made so far, all flag commanding officers, commanders and commanding officers will be required to sign a performance contract, to ensure that all the goals set out by the Navy to protect Nigeria’s maritime space are achieved.
