Osun State Government Provides Free Train Ride From Lagos To Osogbo During Eid-il-kabir Celebrations

Osun State announces free train ride from Lagos to Osogbo during eid-il-kabir celebrations
Osun State Government has declared a free train ride from Lagos to Osogbo for citizens returning home for the 2017 eid-il-kabir celebrations according to a statement by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Ismail Jayeoba-Alagbada.

Jayeoba-Alagbada said the gesture was in “furtherance of Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration’s commitment to the welfare of the ordinary people who deserve this form of support from the government.”
He said the free train is expected to move from Lagos twice to Osogbo and will operate only one trip for the post-sallah return journey.

The first train moves from Lagos on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 at exactly 10 AM from the Iddo Terminus, Lagos en route our usual Ikeja, through Ogun and Oyo State to end the journey in Osogbo.
Another one leaves at the same time on Thursday, August 31st, 2017 through the same route down to Osogbo.
After the Eid-il-Kabir celebration, the train leaves Osogbo on Sunday September 3rd, 2017 for Lagos. This we have concluded as the plan for this year’s Eid-il-Kabir festival.” the statement said.
Jayeoba-Alagbada said he hopes the provision made by the state gives Osun indigenes, in particular, the opportunity to return home in order to savour the joy of the festival with their relatives.
“This is one of the social protection projects of the Aregbesola administration and since we commenced this more than six years ago, we have not looked back,” he said.

Gospel Artiste, Gbolahan Odukoya And Wife Welcome Thier First Baby After Waiting For 9 Years And 2 Failed IVFs

Gbolahan Odukoya
Gospel Artiste, Gbolahan Odukoya, ‘Agbanilagbatan’ crooner has finally welcomed a baby with his wife after 9 years of waiting and two failed IVFs.

The excited gospel artiste took to his Instagram page to share this adorable photos and wrote;
Gbolahan Odukoya

“I’ll need to update my Bio and add “Father” to it. After 9yrs with a doctor’s report that we will NEVER be able to naturally conceive, after 2 expensive failed attempts at IVF, after tears and prayers and fastings, declarations and songs written in hope……..SHE IS HERE!! Her mother is recovering steadily at the hospital.
Bless the Lord O my Soul.”

Sometime ago, the gospel singer told their love story thus;

Gbolahan: We met at her home. I went there to  look for a mutual friend who went to visit her. We met in 1997.

How long did it take you to woo her?
Gbolahan: A few months actually. I was 20 years old and I just found her irresistible and compelling. She was studying to gain admission to the university at that time. I was already a student of UNILAG.

Was it love at first sight?
Gbolahan: No. The love grew but I was definitely smitten the first day I met her

What attracted you to each other?
Gbolahan: Her outgoing and feisty temperament plus her beauty. Of course, her ability to speak good English helped set me at ease with her.
Lola: His intelligence, friendliness and height.

What was your reaction when he told you he was interested in courting you?
Lola: We were young when we first started dating so, it was quite exciting to know he was interested in getting to know me better.

How long did you court for?
Gbolahan: Our courtship was on and off with many years in between. She was my girlfriend when I was 20 till I turned 22 and we broke up. Then I chased after her again when I was 27 but she wasn’t forthcoming and I lost patience. We reconciled when I was 30 and we got married when I was 31 and on her 30th birthday.

What convinced you to propose marriage to her?
Gbolahan: The fact that she knew me. The fact that even after a decade of dating  on and off, I still found her irresistible. The fact that even after 11 years, we were still compatible and hadn’t grown apart even though we had spent many years apart and in other relationships.

How did you propose to her and what was her initial reaction?
Gbolahan:  My proposal was very unromantic and I’m not proud of it at all. We had gone to watch a movie and I was driving her home when I simply asked her in the car, “Do you know what? Let’s get married.” She immediately said yes. After a few seconds, what had just happened dawned on her and she complained that I didn’t even try to be romantic about it. I replied that we had had too much history for me to have the emotional energy to be romantic about the proposal.

Did any member of your families oppose your relationship?
Gbolahan: There was no opposition whatsoever. In fact both our parents were so happy and approved  of our relationship. I was actually shocked at how easily our parents gave their blessings.

How would you describe the years of being married to each other?
Lola: There have been good years and there have been bad years. Just like life, there have been highs and lows. Days when we are grateful to God we got married and other days we wonder why on earth we chose each other.

What are those things marriage has taught you?
Gbolahan:  Marriage has taught me responsibility. It has taught me the virtues of patience. It has also taught me that love is a verb, not a noun or an adjective. When you truly love someone, there are things you will do regardless of your emotional state. Love is commitment, pure and simple.
Lola: Patience, tolerance and compromise

If you had to change anything about each other, what would it be?
Gbolahan: I would change her reluctance to go out with me instead of always staying home. I would increase her involvement in both my business and music.
Lola: I would change his reluctance to go on vacations with me and his overtly passionate views about political issues; I would really like to tone that down.

Are you also music inclined and how much has his career rubbed off on your love for music?
Lola: Yes, I am musically inclined. I used to be in the choir.

What time do you create for the family and how do you spend this time together?
Gbolahan: We talk a lot at home, watch TV together and go to watch movies once in a while. Lola’s work schedule causes her to always want to stay home during the weekends while I am busy as a musician and guitar tutor.

Gov. Ajimobi Assigns 21 New Ibadan Kings In A Day

Governor Of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, on Sunday presented staffs of office to 21 new kings in Ibadan, the state capital.

At a ceremony held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the governor said he had nothing against the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who was not at the ceremony, adding that the appointment of the new kings followed due process.
The governor stated that thenceforth, the Olubadan would be addressed as His Imperial Majesty, while members of the Olubadan–in-Council, who were also elevated to kingship status, would be addressed as ‘‘your royal majesties.’’

The governor also explained that the promoted baales would be addressed as ‘‘your royal highnesses.’’
The elevated members of the Olubadan-in-Council, who were present to receive their instruments of office were the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Senator Lekan Balogun; the Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadan land, Eddy Oyewole; the Balogun of Ibadan land, Owolabi Olakuleyin; the Osi Balogun of Ibadan land, Tajudeen Ajibola; the Asipa Balogun of Ibadan land, Latifu Adebimpe; the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadan land, Dr Kolawole Adegbola; the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadan land, Abiodun Kola-Daisi; and the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Amidu Ajibade.

The Osi Olubadan of Ibadan land, Rashidi Ladoja, was not present at the ceremony.
The elevated baales are the Onijaye of Ijaye, Oba Lasisi Akano; the Oniroko of Iroko, Oba Ismaila Opeola; the Onikereku of Ikereku, Oba Moses Akinyosoye; the Ololodo of Olodo, Oba Mudasiru Adebayo, and the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Victor Sunday Okunola.
Others are the Onido of Ido, Oba Gbolagade Babalola, Alakufo of Akufo, Oba Olabamiji Thomas, the Oloke of Okelade-Okin, Oba Wahab Okedina; the Alawotan of Awotan, Oba Dauda Omotoso, Olofa of Offa, Oba Adeboye Salako, the Onilagun of Lagun, Oba Rafiu Alawusa, the Alaba of Aba-Nla, Oba Tiamiyu Ladipo, and the Alakanran of Akanran, Oba James Obisesan.
Among the dignitaries at the ceremony were the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulraseed Akanbi; Niyi Akintola (SAN), a former president-general of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Bayo Oyero; the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria in Oyo State, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu; the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Daud Akinola; and the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Akin Oke.

The governor described the event as a day that great sons and daughters of Ibadanland came together to elevate and transform the chieftaincy institution of Ibadan land.
He said, “I am delighted to be at this occasion where history is being made in Ibadan land. Today, we are all gathered to witness the crowning ceremony, presentation of certificates and staff of office to the High Chiefs who are members of the Olubadan–in Council and 13 baales in Ibadan land who have been elevated to the position of obas.
“I wish to state categorically that we are not changing history, we are not changing tradition, we are not changing the culture of Ibadan land; rather, we are elevating and consolidating our traditional institution, the exalted position of the Olubadan of Ibadan as the Imperial Majesty in Ibadanland, the Olubadan-in-Council and the chieftaincy institution without tinkering with the traditional succession and ascendancy system of the Olubadan chieftaincy structure.”
The governor added that successive governments in Oyo State had engaged in reviewing the 1959 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration made pursuant to the 1957 Chiefs Laws and other related chieftaincies in Ibadan land.

“Permit me to use this opportunity to advise the new kings to use their elevated royal positions to promote peace and unity of the citizenry. We also congratulate the Olubadan of Ibadanland and advise that Kaabiyesi should remain the father of all Ibadan citizens and not allow himself to be used as observed in his recent utterances which tend towards the political. It should be noted that Obas are not expected to play politics,” added the governor.
Speaking on behalf of the new kings, Oba Lekan Balogun said the action of the governor meant that the city had caught up with the rest of the Yoruba in the South-West. He said it would help the agitation for Ibadan State as it would be unpalatable to have only one king in a state.
