(PHOTOS) Hindu Worshippers Pierce Each Other With Hooks, Screws, etc To Honour Their God

For some, no price is too great to pay for the purpose of their religion. Some swear oaths of celibacy and silence and others are even willing to die.
Some Hindus, like the one above, are willing to go through immense pain just to honour their god.
This ritual of stabbing and piercing takes place at the Thaipusam festival in Asia in reverence to Lord Murugan, a god.

The Mirror reports:
People in countries such as India, Malaysia and Singapore came together in temples to partake in the painful acts to give thanks to one of their Gods, Lord Murugan, a son of Shiva.
Although pulling skewers through their cheeks and attaching elaborate contraptions with hooks may look like unnecessary pain, Hindus believe that observing the strict rituals and prayers will cleanse them of their sins and misdeeds.
Devotees can be seen carrying milk pots to seek forgiveness whilst some will carry a kavadi, an elaborate contraption attached via strings hooks and screws into the carriers’ skin that signifies a burden.
Meanwhile, limes, which are hung from hooks on the wearers’ backs, represent protection by the deities.
Participants often prepare for the festival by fasting for 48 hours and engaging in prayer to cleanse themselves.
Celebrated on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai the event also marks the day Hindu Goddess Parvati gave her son a lance to defeat the evil demon Soorapadam.
Sometimes stretching to three or four days, it was first celebrated at the Batu Caves in 1888, and is one of the largest and most significant Hindu public displays.

A 14-year-old boy has been left with the body of a 110-year-old in India because he has a rare disease which makes him age eight times faster than normal. Ali Hussain has seen five of his siblings die from the same condition called Progeria which is known to affect just 80 people worldwide.

Two of his brothers and three of his sisters have died from the disease in Bihar, the poorest state in India. The rare condition is known to affect only 80 people in the world, but has killed five of his siblings Progeria causes rapid aging and sufferers of the genetic disease are prone to arthritis, eye problems, heart disease and baldness. Sufferers are not expected to live much beyond the age of 14 – but despite the grim-prognosis Ali has refused to give up hope. “I very much want to live and I hope there is medicine for my condition out there.

I’m not scared of death but my parents have suffered a lot. I’d love to live much longer for them. I don’t want to burden them with any more pain.” Ali’s parents Nabi Hussain Khan, 50, and Razia, 46, are first cousins and were the product of an arranged marriage 32 years ago. Their children Rehana, Iqramul, Gudiya and Rubina have all died from Progeria between the ages of 12 and24.
A fifth child, a boy who died within 24 hours of being born, is also thought to have had the rare condition.Nabia and Razia, who have had eight children in total, do have two healthy daughters – Sanjeeda, 20, who is married with two children of her own. Their youngest daughter Chanda, 10, also does not have Progeria. When their first daughter, Rehana, was born in 1983 they had no idea anything was wrong at first.

It was only after her second birthday when she couldn’t eat or walk properly did they visit a doctor. But the doctor was baffled and he sent them home with some medicines. Progeria was so rare and poorly documented that most doctors had never heard of it.

"God Has Been To Good To Me" - Newly Wed Toke Makinwa Shares Her First "Mrs" Photo

Well, after dating on and off for 12 good years, Media personality Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida have finally gotten married.

The longtime lovers got married quietly on Wednesday January 15th at a registry in Lagos, with only a few family members and friends in attendance.

It actually took Toke Makinwa's dumping him and he, Maje whining like a baby, alongside the social media drama to get him do the right thing.

How Maje secretly planned the wedding:
After the dramatic break-up ish, Maje felt miserable, so after seeking advise from friends and family members, he came up with the 'secret wedding' idea.

He planned with a popular magazine to invite Toke Makinwa to Lagos Island for a photo shoot.
The magazine got Toke to the hotel where she was dressed and styled in a April by Kunbi wedding gown.

After being dressed up, she was moved to the 'photoshoot' venue where she surprisingly met Maje Ayida, her sister and a few registry officials who were waiting to officiate the wedding.

The lovebirds cried and embraced and Toke accepted his ring, whoop!
The newly weds now live in Lekki, with a cook and driver at Toke’s beck and call.

Apparently all the Tweets and Vlogs from Toke and her man, which mirrored that they had gone their separate ways, were antics to get the media off their back and it worked.

P.S: The few friends and family members that attended the wedding were stripped off their mobile phones and other devices to avoid anyone leaking pictures.

Anyways, check out the newest photo of Mrs Toke Makinwa-Ayida and her words of appreciation:
