A non-governmental organisation, Centre for Leadership and Youth Orientation, has called for the abolition of youth gambling and beauty pageants.

The group observed that gambling and beauty pageants were discouraging youths from skill acquisition and self-reliance.

The initiator of CENSTLEYO, Mr. Felix Imah, stated this on Saturday in Nnewi, Anambra State, during a one-day training programme for journalists.

Delivering a paper entitled ‘CENSTLEYO and the media in the transformation of our society’, Imah argued that such organised get-rich-quick ventures had destroyed most youths.

He said, “They no longer find acquisition of leadership skills and other moral values important or even necessary.”

Citing the recent alleged Anambra sex scandal involving the 2015 Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, the CENSTLEYO initiator said most girls were exploited in such competitions.
