Former Bayelsa State Acting Governor Wenipreye Seibarugu Injured As Masked Gunmen Storm His Residence

Gunmen on Tuesday, attacked the home of a former acting governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Wenipreye Seibarugu, in Okaka, Yenagoa, the state capital.

Seibarugu was said to have sustained an injury during the attack as he, his orderly and other occupants of the house chased after the assailants.
The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, was a two-time Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, deputy governor to Chief Timipre Sylva and an acting governor of the state.
It was learnt that the gunmen, numbering five, were reported to have invaded the home through the kitchen end of the house.

Sources said that the gunmen, who wore masks, were given a chase after Seibarugu’s wife sighted them from the kitchen and raised the alarm.
The wife’s alarm was said to have attracted him (Seibarugu) and some occupants.
A source, who craved anonymity, said armed police orderly of the former acting governor and some occupants chased after the gunmen, adding that Seibarugu, who joined in the chase of the criminals, sustained a fracture in the left arm.

Confirming the development, Seibarugu, described the attack as worrisome, saying, “I just got back from Port Harcourt in Rivers State and was woken up by the cry of my wife that some gunmen were trying to gain entry into the house. We chased after them, but they escaped.”
Seibarugu said he had yet to report the matter to the police because he was rushed to the hospital due to the injury he sustained.

It was learnt that policemen from Ekeki Division led by the DPO visited Seibarugu’s house about 4.30pm to ascertain the development.
Effort to get the reaction of the State Police Command was unsuccessful as the mobile line of the command’s spokesman, Asinim Butswat, did not connect. (PUNCH)
